- “I ‘borrowed’ this cutlery from the US Army on the way to Bremerhaven refugee camp as a memento of my days in Germany.”

- “I have carried this diary since I was a young boy in Romania. In it I have marked dates of interest and recorded my gliding in Romania.”

- “I used this from Vienna West station. We were placed in the middle train carriage and we looked for a means of escape from the Russian zone of Austria. We were pleased to find the doors unlocked and jumped out. This was in late December 1948 and the snow was quite deep so it was not such a hard landing!”

- “This was beautifully embroidered by my mother and I carried it with me through many countries on my migration journey.”

- “My mother made four handkerchieves for me when I was leaving Romania. They were all embroidered with my initials and this is the only one to survive. I carried it throughout my migration journey.”
