Rockdale City changed dramatically after World War Two. Migrant accommodation centres at Kingsgrove and Kyeemagh settled many migrants. Rockdale is now home to a culturally diverse population with 45% of people born overseas. The local parks and reserves and their community associations are being researched.

Since the 1830s, the Cornish and other migrants have developed the economy and culture of central NSW. Both Cornish and Welsh migrants were influential in the mining industry, at places such as Lucknow and Cadia. Byng was established by Cornish settlers.

Adamstown, Greta, Mayfield, Nelson Bay and Port Stephens are known locations of the Federal Government’s post-Second World War Two migration accommodation centres which settled migrants while they worked in industries including the rope works and light globe factory located in the Hunter area.
