AYUL TOWNG originally comes from southern Sudan. After civil war broke out in 1983 and everything was destroyed, she moved to the national capital, Khartoum, in 1985, where she lived for ten years. In 2003, Ayul came to Australia, where one of her daughters was already resident, and one of her sons followed soon after.
Ayul has lived in Blacktown for six years and enjoys going to church and meeting and talking to other people her age at SydWest Multicultural Services. She still has children living in Sudan and goes back to visit them.
[Blacktown] is a first home for me. … In Sudan I have two daughter, one boy, … one granddaughter. I always every three years … visit … [but] coming back here is home.
