MAYOR MAKUEI CHAGAI was born in Yirol in southern Sudan. He lived in a refugee camp in Kenya for a number of years where he became involved in basketball. He came to Australia with his cousin’s family and is now busy working and managing a local basketball team in Blacktown. He also studies agricultural science and works with local youth organisations to help build relationships among young people of all backgrounds.
There’s some kids [of African background] that play soccer, some kids that play music and some kids that dance and they don’t know where they can get support to their talents. So this … I do with young people here. Like creating a network with them, linking them up with other youth providers that are in Blacktown area and other places.
