Workers at the Warragamba Dam scheme
Estonian migrants came to Australia as a result
of prime minister Ben Chifley's bold program
of immigration. Migrants were needed to provide
labour for Australia’s postwar development.
After failing to attract enough British and
northern European settlers, Australia looked to
Europe's Displaced Persons. Australia employed
its newest citizens for up two years, on the
Snowy Mountains Scheme, Warragamba Dam
and Prospect Reservoir.
