Botany Bay is one of the most significant places in the history of migration to Australia. It is the location where James Cook and the crew of the HMS Endeavour made first contact with the indigenous people on the east coast of Australia in 1770. After the arrival of the British First Fleet and the French Lapérouse Expedition in 1788 the European colonisation of Australia began.
The booklet At The Beach: Contact, Migration & Settlement In South East Sydney was written by Stephen Thompson and published by the NSW Migration Heritage Centre with support from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The La Perouse Museum is a property of the NSW National Parks And Wildlife Service, Department of Environment & Climate Change (NSW). It is located at the end of Anzac Parade, 14 km south of Sydney’s CBD.
Its collection was also documented for the NSW Migration Heritage Centre online exhibition: ‘Objects Through Time’.
