From the Back Blocks to the Front Lines records and preserves important historical photographs and oral histories of ageing Italian migrants and their families who moved to south-western Sydney. The project included active participation with local communities and documentation of heritage objects.
It culminated in records added to the Migration Heritage Centres’ online Belongings exhibition and a photographic exhibition.
This project met a number of Co.As.It.’s objectives by:
• promoting community development and initiatives as well as encouraging involvement in the consultation process and ongoing input in the project; and
• enriching society by promoting the benefits of cultural diversity, in this case, the richness of a culturally diverse community who settled in south-western Sydney.
The exhibition is currently touring New South Wales venues.
From the Back Blocks to the Front Lines is a Migration Heritage Centre partnership project with Co.As.It Italian Heritage and the Community Relations Commission.
